SUBJECT: Recruitment and Salaries

As you are aware, the decision to venture into the Asia/Pacific market is an integral part of our 3-year strategic plan. Since our recent management conference, I have been considering placing one of our staff 'on the ground' in Singapore to get things started, probably by the first quarter of next year.

It's very likely that this person would need to be assisted by some project personnel, some of whom might need to do short visits overseas. We would even end up with two teams, one in Singapore and one at home.

The first task will be to establish a working relationship with Matthew Lieu and the other senior staff at Sunny Home Suppliers Pty. Ltd. So whoever is appointed to the Singapore role would need to have good marketing, team leader, project management and human relations skills.

As this kind of appointment is entirely new to me, I'd like your ideas about what kind of package we should be offering. I'd also appreciate your ideas about anyone from within STAR who might suit such a job. I'd prefer to recruit from within, although we may have trouble getting anyone who wants to spend so such time overseas.

I am in the office next Tuesday morning. Could you contact me, or my PA, Wendy to set up an appointment time so that we can discuss possible candidates, as well as what kind of salary package we should be considering.

Regards,

Ben Russell

PS. What is an appropriate Job Title? I am referring to the job as 'Business Development Manager S/E Asia' for now - what do you think?
