SUBJECT: Childcare Support
As you are aware, I have been having some difficulty with getting to work on time on certain days. I have discussed this with my supervisor, who has been more than considerate in allowing me to vary my times slightly.
The reason for my lateness is that I cannot leave my children at pre-school prior to 8.15, as their Dad has long gone to work by then. Fortunately, his shifts finish early and he is able to pick them up by 3.30 each afternoon.
I have been talking with a friend of mine in a similar position who works for Planet Outdoor Furniture. She tells me that Planet has an in-house childcare centre, which she says is very popular with staff who have pre-school children.
As I know that there are a number of women in similar positions as myself at STAR, I am wondering whether you might investigate the possibility of us doing something similar, or at least paying something towards childcare?
I've also heard that some employers deduct childcare fees from their employees' pay and pay it directly to the centre. Would this save me some money? Would it reduce my tax?
Could you get back to me ASAP on this, as I love my job and don't like being late. If you need someone to help discuss or investigate this idea further, I would be happy to help.
Many thanks,
Karen

SUBJECT: Study Leave
I am currently enrolled in the 2nd year of International Marketing at my local TAFE College. The course is a 3-year course, 2 nights a week, and up until now I have managed to handle the study and assignment demands. However, I am anxious about the two externally set exams I have this year.
I really need to plan for some leave prior to these, which are scheduled for June 16th and November 21st. I have now been full time with STAR for 3 years and have not yet taken any of my annual leave.
I know that many organisations have paid study-leave arrangements for employees who are undertaking a work-related course. Is this the case at STAR? If so, I'd like to apply for 6 days please. The dates are 14th, 15th and 16th June and 19th, 20th and 21st November. Can you please get back to me and confirm this?
Many thanks,
Bill
